Code of Conduct

Respecting the Game

Basketball BC is committed to programs that emphasize "Respecting the Game". We believe that developing a healthy respect for the game will lead to programs that are fun and at an appropriate competitive level. Basketball BC has approved the following Codes of Conduct for all programs, players, and participants in authorized Basketball BC Programs. It is recommended that these Codes of Conduct be posted at all venues where Basketball BC programs occur - Whether it be practice, game or other scheduled events. These Codes of Conduct represent a general philosophy that should encompass all Basketball BC programs. They are not expected to cover every possible situation nor are they all-inclusive. Basketball BC Programs cover a wide range of ages of participants and not all points may be applicable to each participant but the underlying philosophy of "Respecting the Game" is important for all participants involved in Basketball BC programs. It is understood that individual teams, leagues, associations etc., may add to these codes to cover specific circumstances e.g. a travel policy, a chaperone policy, a curfew policy, special playing rules, and other special situations. (Adopted from the Australian Institute of Sport and LTAD materials)

Basketball BC would like to emphasize that the code of conduct are to be strictly followed by all coaches athletes and specators, and failure to do so may result in the following:
  1. A verbal warning will be given
  2. A second offense is an automatic bench technical foul. The opposing team is granted a free throw and the ball back.
  3. A third offense may result in ejection and forfeiture
The rule is in effect for the entire season. It does not reset on a game by game basis. We hope coaches will set a good example for their athletes, and that we can all practice well sportsmanship. Please read the rules carefully and do your best to practice and implement them throughout the season.
